Day 2

Monday, March 9, 2009
1. Yesterday we went to a park and saw gators and a giant snake. The snake was in a cage. The gators were not.

2. Today we got to play with kids at a childcare center. They were adorable and hugged me a lot. Kids are so friendly and accepting. It's fantastic.

3. We also went to the creepiest place on Earth yesterday. Creepiest. Place. In. The. World. Stepford Wives meets Pleastantville meets The Giver.

4. After the childcare center, we went to a park and played frisbee and volleyball. I'm 3 shades browner already. People keep asking me if I'm Spanish/speak it because I'm browner than all the other students.

5. I'm liking this town more than cities. I love traveling to cities, but being here is so great and authentic because the people don't cater to tourists. The signs are in Spanish because the people speak it, not because they want tourists to be impressed. Chickens are running around everywhere. We got Mexican food and it was so real. I had 2 little tortillas with beef and onions and peppers. It was amazing.

6. I keep thinking we're in Mexico.

7. We also went to a farmer's market and I spent almost $10 on fresh fruit and vegetables. I'm bringing back dried chili peppers. Sasha and I bought cactus to cook with some onions. I got free jalapenos. And it's all fresh and smells amazing.
