More "Housewives!"

Tuesday, June 9, 2009 0
There's going to be a DC season of Real Housewives.

Dear Bravo, thanks for continually feeding my addiction. Now, just release more seasons on DVD so I can buy them.

Also, NY vs NJ.

Ah, reality television. I love you.

1. The Cougar

This show has the best elimination process I have seen on reality TV thusfar. I haven't seen Ru Paul's Drag Race, and apparently that had good eliminations, but my former favorite was "You will not be the next Pussycat Doll. Please hang up your boa." The Cougar is a dating show with a 40 year old woman, Stacey, and male contestants in their mid to late 20s. During eliminations, Stacey calls each guy up and tells him to kiss her. If she lets him kiss her on the lips, he's allowed to stay. But if she turns her cheek to him, he leaves.

It makes me laugh every time.

2. I Love Money 2

Quote of the week comes from this week's episode. Keep in mind, they're in Mexico.

Saaphyri: Look! Dolphins!
Prancer: I think those are manta rays.
Saaphyri: Oh, like penguins?

3. Real Housewives of NYC

New reality show love.

We just watched The Cougar and I absolutely love it. It's hysterical. I'll write more about it tomorrow, but I'm so glad we caught the second half of it.

Cartoon Bethenny has big thighs.

New York

1. I love when Bethenny starts talking like Jill. I need a Jewy friend.
2. The camera work annoyed me. If Jill is talking, don't get a reaction shot of Bethanny. Go for the two shot. Come on, guys.
3. Bethenny mentioned the Snuggie.

The countess is getting a divorce! Oh no!

Orange County
Someone threatened Vikki. Haha.

More reality TV.

From here:

Season 23 of The Real World on MTV is now having casting calls throughout America after kicking it off in Philly, Austin, & Minneapolis the last weekend of February.

Real World 23 will film later in 2009 after the currently filming Real World Cancun, the 22nd season, wraps by the summer.

The types of people between 18 and 24 years old most sought after for Real World number 23:

  • Physically challenged or handicapped
  • Obese or struggling with weight issues
  • Going through the immigrant-to-citizenship process themselves or an immediate family member
  • Was adopted via the foster-care system
  • Grieving over the loss of a spouse or significant other
  • Deeply passionate about a cause or social issue

And from here:

Jon Murray of Bunim-Murray Productions told The Hollywood Reporter that the 22nd season of the The Real World has already started in Cancun Mexico.

This has no direct relation to The Real Cancun movie although filmed by same Bunim-Murray production company back in 2003 and incidentally lost approximately $2,000,000 at the box office.

The Real World Cancun “house” will be the ME Cancun Resort located at Boulevard Kukulkan, km. 12.

The Real World Cancun cast will work with the spring break company StudentCity.com to serve as guides for visiting college students.

StudentCity.com is based out of the Boston area and I myself worked directly with the Executive Vice President Jacqui Lewis in Cancun back in 2001.

In 2001 I saw that StudentCity and MTV were forming a collaboration for Spring Break events and shortly after I started the MM Agency for the Real World cast members.

I am sure Jacqui will be working with the Real World Cancun cast members and have them ready to deal with the drama once college Spring Break hits in March and the high schoolers in April.

Real World co-creator Jonathan Murray even told The Hollywood Reporter, “They’re going to help give people a safe and fun vacation. They also might have to bail somebody out of a Mexican jail, stuff like that.”

Looks like The Brooklyn Real World was only a short respite back to the olden days of the show and the Cancun season will usher back the Las Vegas drinking and hookup drama era.

I probably should have posted those in the opposite order, but you get the idea. MTV used to be more about music, as well as opening people's minds and attempting to educate their target audience (okay, it also had spring break specials, but the advertisements celebrating queerness in the 1990s and things like Choose or Lose, I think, helped to counter spring break specials), and now it's become ridiculous. The Real World used to showcase "different" kinds of people (queers, mostly...that's all I seem to focus on anymore) in order for people to learn about them, but the Cancun season seems wicked trashy. Maybe they're going to try to get back to what it was with S23, but...I don't know.

ANOTHER shot at love.

From MTVrealityworld.com:

After two shots with Tila Tequila and one double shot with the Ikki Twins MTV has decided to bring back it’s hit bisexual dating show, A Shot At Love, for a fourth season.

According to the casting page, MTV is “scouring the country once more in search of the most eligible, alluring, outrageous and adventurous men and women” to see if they “have what it takes to hold the key to our brand new bachlorette’s heart.”

Wait a minute…. brand new bachlorette? I would’ve put money on Rikki coming back for a second season without her twin sister Vikki.

I guess we’ll have to wait and see. In the meantime, if you want to try out for the show you can go to http://shotatlovecasting.com/ or http://www.gotcast.com/casting-calls/MTVs-A-Shot-at-Love-4/53666

What's the twist this time? In S1, the contestants didn't know Tila was bisexual at first. In S3, they didn't know that there were twins until after the first elimination. Who are they going to get to be the "brand new bachlorette?" A Playboy Bunny? A celebrity? Unless they come up with an amazing new girl (...maybe a guy instead? FRATERNAL TWINS, one female, one male, both bisexual? Celebrity twins? Triplets? Oh, the possibilities are endless), the shock value of the show is going to disappear. Just one more reality dating show that will bring MTV another step closer to VH1's trash factor. But I will probably still watch it.
