Not all traditions are worth keeping.

Thanks to Tracie for showing me this. It just goes to show that people arguing against homosexuality "because the Bible says it's wrong" and that keeping gays and lesbians from marrying "protects the sanctity of marriage" should stop and think about what they're saying. The divorce rate in this country keeps growing, people get married out of wedlock and because they're forced to--how is that protecting the "sanctity" of marriage? And, like the video pointed out, premarital sex is not only accepted, but expected; a large majority of people don't wait to have sex until they're married, but churches don't freak out about that detail.

I really just don't understand how you can deny someone his or her happiness. So gay marriages are nontraditional. So what? A wedding with a seven-months-pregnant woman isn't traditional, either. And don't try to argue that a civil union is the same thing as a marriage; the government doesn't value them equally, and there are 1,138 rights denied gays and lesbians who can't marry. How is denying happiness okay?

1. I get all of my information from Facebook. When Prop 8 was upheld, I wasn't informed via newspaper or television; I went on Facebook and saw everyone's "Fuck California" statuses and then checked CNN.com. I'm not sure if that's necessarily a good thing, but we're in an age where Facebook and Twitter are being used for more than just keeping in touch with people (even the Cutler Majestic Theatre has a Twitter/FBook for advertising purposes). I guess as long as I'm getting news, the way I'm getting it doesn't matter. Right?

2. Molly's lending me her "Practicing to Take the GRE General Test" book and I started reading it. I'm still not 100% sure if I want to go to grad school, but I should be prepared, just in case. I need to talk to more people about it; the ASB advisor has been giving me advice and has been a lot of help, and I need to make a final decision. I'm probably going to freak out about this like I did with the SATs, and like I do with just about everything else. I kind of liked taking the SATs. I don't know why. And yes, I know how weird that makes me.

3. Even though I have a huge stack of books to read (which just doubled because I went to the library and checked out books to use for thesis research), I'm buying Bonk: The Curious Coupling of Science and Sex, by Mary Roach, and The Year of Living Biblically: One Man’s Humble Quest to Follow the Bible As Literally As Possible, by A.J. Jacobs. We had to read one of Mary Roach's books in the Death Class I took in the fall (Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers) and I loved Roach's writing style; informative and witty, always interesting. And something (Jessa, I think) told me about someone who tried living exactly how the Bible dictates, just to prove how ridiculous it is to try to do so, so I'm excited for that one. I was raised Catholic, but one of the biggest problems I have with the Catholic church is how much people pick and choose what to take from the bible. Specifically in terms of condemning homosexuality.

4. I took a bunch of online quizzes and found that I: am Piggy from Lord of the Flies, am a Pomeranian, am Elmo, should live in Paris, should have majored in computer science (ew), am Carrie Bradshaw, am a mix of Monica Geller and Rachel Green, and a bunch of other things I can't remember right now. Great use of time.

5. Forty days until the Hey Monday concert and Blink 182/Fall Out Boy/Panic at the Disco a little less than 2 months after that (tickets haven't gone on sale yet, but we're going, I think).

6. I've taken a break from Game Show Network to watch the first season of MTM.

1. New obsession: Game Show Network. Jessika came over on Friday and we watched 7 or so hours of GSN, with two random hours of Food Network in between. Word games and Family Feud are the best shows because you can yell answers at the TV.

2. Dollhouse is getting better, like I knew it would. SO MANY people were quick to make judgment during/after the pilot, forgetting that Whedon sometimes takes a little while to sink into a story. The first few episodes of Buffy weren't amazing. Whedon himself said the show wouldn't start picking up until a few episodes in; I'm on the fourth or so episode and the story is definitely getting better.

3. The Real Chance girls on Charm School are annoying and I'm glad one of them went home. The Rock of Love Bus girls are bitchy, sure, but at least they don't scream.

4. Target is having a TV on DVD sale and I picked up S1 of I Love Lucy and S1 and S2 of Mary Tyler Moore.

5. Saw a Harry Potter preview last night. Freaked out. Still trying to reread the books; almost done with Chamber of Secrets.

6. Also saw a preview for My Sister's Keeper. Still wicked angry that Cameron Diaz is playing Sara. Ugh.

Real Housewives of NJ: love it. Hysterical. I love that three of them are related because for some reason, that makes it very Jersey-esque for me. Daisy of Love: also love it.

Finishing up Season 2 of Dawson's Creek and Season 1 of Six Feet Under. I finished S1 of Ellen and S9 of Friends (just because), have slowly been catching up on Dollhouse, and am waiting for the DVR to record the last of Real Housewives of NY.


Last week I fell asleep in a window. Two days ago I fell asleep on the roof.

Adorable.

Molly and I went to BoYo tonight because it just opened, and it was fantastic. The decor is adorable and fun--pink and orange with lots of dots. There was only frozen yogurt when we went, but they're going to sell gelato and smoothies as well. We tried the BoYo Berry flavor; I had chocolate chips on mine and Molly had Cap'n Crunch. Delicious. The kid's size with one topping cost $3.83, but it was pretty big for a kid's size.

Speaking of adorable, I just started working at Copley Flair. Yesterday was my first day at the Boylston location, which is bigger than the School Street location, and it's really cute. There's some touristy Boston stuff, and a lot of cards and gift/party supplies. There's also a lot of other cute things, like books and Ugly Dolls (I want one) and Vera Bradley bags (also want one of those). Plus, my manager is really pretty and really nice.

The EVVY Majestic show is tomorrow. Production week has flown by, and I'm not as tired as I was on Tuesday and Wednesday. The safety meeting was on Monday, and of course, as one of the managers of the Majestic is emphasizing the fact that we CANNOT eat or drink anything, even water, in the house, Kevin Bright strolls across the stage, drinking a bottle of water. (That sentence had a lot of commas in it, sorry.) Dave said that that was going to be the only funny thing KBright did all week, and sure enough, later he made a Friends comment that even I groaned at.

Tuesday was load in and I think it was the fastest load in of the EVVYs. It was the fastest one I've ever been a part of, anyway. We had most of the equipment in place by the first day, so Wednesday was a lot of running cables and making sure things worked. The tech team is awesome and there are so many innuendos that come out of running cable ("Just push it through the hole." "Come on, I just need a few more inches!") and with tech in general (there's some kind of audio thing that's called a butt plug), so having down time sucked but doing actual work wasn't too bad. We also get to use $900 walkie talkies, so we look badass running around the Maj and the Tufte building. On Wednesday I fell asleep in one of the windows on the 9th floor of the Tufte building. Oops. It was Jake's birthday on Wednesday, so we had Boston Market in the Common for lunch and had a cake and sang happy birthday to him...over walkie. I love tech nerds.

Our "tech office" is one of the dressing rooms in the Maj, and we've taken over the group dressing room across the hall and set up Guitar Hero. I think we played for six hours yesterday.
